Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 2025
Last updated: October 27 2025
1. Introduction
This site (blog.brianbaldock.net) is a personal technology blog authored by Brian Baldock (“I,” “me,” or “my”).
It is hosted on the Hashnode platform, operated by LinearBytes Inc. While Hashnode maintains its own platform privacy policy, the following statement describes how I use analytics and cookies on this site.
I do not sell, rent, or share personal data with any other party. This site exists purely for publishing articles and sharing information.
2. What Data Is Collected and Why
This site uses limited analytics tools to understand overall readership and engagement.
Microsoft Clarity
I use Microsoft Clarity, a free analytics service that helps me see how readers interact with pages (e.g., clicks, scroll depth, or layout issues).
Clarity may record anonymized usage data such as:
Page views, device type, and screen size
General location (city/country) derived from IP address
Click and scroll activity
All information is processed in accordance with Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.
I have enabled Clarity Consent Mode, which respects your choice before any cookies are stored.
Google Tag Manager (GTM)
This site loads scripts via Google Tag Manager, which helps me manage tags like Clarity or optional measurement tools. GTM itself does not track you, it only deploys other tags after consent is granted.
If I later enable Google Analytics, only aggregated, anonymized statistics would be collected.
3. Cookies and Consent
Non-essential cookies (for analytics) are set only if you click “Accept” on the cookie banner.
If you choose “Decline,” analytics scripts remain disabled.
You can withdraw consent anytime by clearing cookies for this site in your browser.
Typical cookies include:
| Name | Purpose | Expiry |
_clck, _clsk | Microsoft Clarity session tracking | up to 1 year |
gtm_auth / gtm_preview | Google Tag Manager container verification | session |
4. Third Parties and Data Location
Analytics data is processed by:
Microsoft Corporation (United States) – Clarity
Google LLC (United States) – Tag Manager
These providers may store information on servers located outside your country. Both participate in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and provide standard contractual safeguards.
5. Your Rights and Choices
If you are in the EU/UK/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR including access, correction, deletion, and withdrawal of consent.
You can contact me at privacy@brianbaldock.net for any privacy-related questions or requests.
6. Children’s Privacy
This blog is intended for a general technical audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13 years of age.
7. Changes to This Policy
I may update this notice from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this page, with an updated effective date.
